Diverse Suppliers stands for minority, women,
and disabled veteran business enterprises.
In response to A.B. 3678, the California Public Utilities
Commission (CPUC) issued General Order 156 (GO-156) effective May 30,
1988. GO-156 established uniform rules and guidelines for governing
the development of utilities Women and Minority Business Enterprises
(WMBE) Programs. In June 1992, the GO-156 was amended
to include Service Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBEs)
into the WMBE Program which is now known as the utility Supplier Diversity
Program. Today, the Company's Supplier Diversity Program covers not
only its California service area but also its Nevada and Arizona service
areas.
Southwest Gas' Supplier Diversity Program has taken advantage
of the phenomenal population growth in the Company's service areas to
create business opportunities for Diverse Suppliers. These business
opportunities support the program's theme "There is a
network of helping hands behind every genuine success."
