Easy Energy Develops CHP System at Clarion Hotel Phoenix
Southwest Gas energy efficiency programs saves hotel $15,000 annuallyPhoenix, AZ: Phoenix-based Easy Energy is excited to announce the completed installation of a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) system at Clarion Hotel Phoenix. When operating, the CHP system will provide the hotel's electricity for the guestrooms as well as heat the pool, spa and water for the guestrooms.
CHP, also known as cogeneration, is a well-proven technology with a 30 year history, and is often deployed in commercial and industrial applications where there is a constant demand for both heat and electricity.
Easy Energy developed and financed the project and improved the payback period to 2.4 years by utilizing Southwest Gas's rebate program. This program provides incentives for purchasing energy efficient equipment. An estimated $80,000 was rebated.
The constant rising costs of utility-supplied electricity, coupled with the declining costs of clean-burning natural gas, make CHP a viable solution for commercial businesses. "We had to find a way to decrease our electricity costs without impacting the comfort and services for our hotel guests," says James Evanoff, general manager of Clarion Hotel Phoenix. "We like the CHP solution because it offers savings during peak-demand utility periods, which coincides with the check-in times of our guests during the summer months."
