Southwest Gas To Host
Community Blood DriveVictorville, Calif. – Southwest Gas will partner with LifeStream on Wednesday, May 9 to host a community blood drive. The public is invited to visit LifeStream’s mobile unit that will be located in the parking lot of Southwest’s Victorville business office, 13471 Mariposa Road, between 7:00 am and noon, to donate blood.
"Donating blood is a precious gift and there is no greater way to give of yourself," said Luis Frisby, vice president of Southwest's Southern California Division. "Our Blue – Building Lives Up Everywhere volunteer team is pleased to sponsor this event, and we encourage anyone who can donate critically needed blood to do so to help make this blood drive an overwhelming success."
Donating blood is safe, easy, and takes about an hour. Blood donors must be 17 years of age or older (16 years old with a signed LifeStream parental consent form), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in overall good health. Prospective donors must also present a photo ID.
LifeStream of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties operates ten mobile units, five donor centers, supplies blood products to approximately 70 medical centers daily, and performs more than 175,000 transfusions each year. According to LifeStream, every three to four seconds of every day, someone needs a blood transfusion and more than 500 donations of lifesaving blood are needed each day to meet emergency and ongoing patient needs in Southern California. Since 40 percent of the blood collected comes from other parts of the country, it is important to hold blood drives locally.
Southwest Gas provides natural gas service to approximately 1.9 million customers in parts of Arizona, California and Nevada.
