Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies
1-1/2 c. butter-flavored shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs (room temperature)
2 t. vanilla |
2 t. baking soda
3/4 c. buttermilk
6 c. flour |
Beat butter-flavored shortening and sugar until creamy; add vanilla and
beat. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each. Mix flour and
baking soda in a separate bowl. Add flour mix and buttermilk alternately
mixing well after each addition. Chill for a couple of hours. Knead lightly.
Roll out to about 1/4-1/2" thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Place on
ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes.

Frosting
1 box powdered sugar
2 T. butter, softened
2 T. half & half (added 1 T. at a time)
Food coloring
*Add a few drops of water to make frosting glossy |

Stir first two frosting ingredients until mixed, add half & half
a little at a time until it looks like frosting and then add color.
Spread on cookies and immediately add the sprinkles. Freeze for a
short time to set up. Keep in an air-tight container with wax paper
in between layers of cookies. To keep cookies soft, put a piece of
bread on top and seal.
