Construction for Pipeline Replacement to Begin

TUCSON,  Ariz.  –  Contractors  for  Southwest  Gas  are  anticipated  to  begin  on  Monday,  May  18,  2015   installing  a  gas  main  that  will  cross  East  Sixth  Street  near  the  University  of  Arizona’s  football  stadium. 
 
All  work  will  be  performed  between  7  p.m.  and  6  a.m.  and  is  anticipated  to  last  about  three  weeks.  The   work  on  the  gas  main  will  affect  several  streets  in  the  project  area  that  include  East  Sixth  Street  near   Arizona  Stadium,  North  Warren  Avenue  south  of  Sixth  Street  and  National  Championship  Drive  to  the   north  of  Sixth  Street  as  follows:     
 
  • Traffic flow on East  Sixth  Street  in  the  affected  area  will  be  shifted  to  one  lane  in  each  direction during  the  nighttime  construction  hours
  • North Warren Avenue will be closed completely from East Sixth Street to the nearest alley heading south for the duration of the project       
  • National  Championship  Drive  will  be  affected  intermittently
 
There  will  be  no  work  in  front  of  the  Sun  Tran  bus  stop  located  on  the  north  side  of  Sixth  Street  between   Warren  Avenue  and  North  Campbell  Avenue  and  it  will  be  operational  during  construction,  although   traffic  control  may  affect  pedestrian  access.  Vehicular  access  to  businesses,  residences  and  University  of   Arizona  parking  lots  will  be  maintained.
