Hundreds of families received fresh, nutritious groceries as Southwest Gas employees volunteered at mobile “Pop Up & Give” events – distributing food to more than 950 individuals and donating $30,000 to fight food insecurity
LAS VEGAS – (May 17, 2025) – In a powerful demonstration of community support, Southwest Gas teamed up with local nonprofit The Just One Project to bring essential groceries directly to families in need through the organization’s monthly Pop Up & Give food distribution event. Hundreds of Southern Nevadans benefited from the large-scale effort, supported by Southwest Gas and a $30,000 donation from the Southwest Gas Foundation.
As part of Southwest Gas’ employee volunteer program, BLUE – Building Lives Up Everywhere, more than 100 employees and their families volunteered at two distribution sites – Canyon Springs High School and Kenny Guinn Middle School – providing fresh, nutritious food for those facing food insecurity. Through the BLUE program, employees are empowered to support local nonprofits and uplift the communities where they live and work.
Volunteers began the morning unloading and sorting pallets of fresh groceries, creating a drive-thru distribution line for hundreds of cars packed with families and individuals waiting for critical assistance. In total, food was distributed to more than 950 individuals – at no cost.
“At The Just One Project, we believe that access to nutritious food is a basic human right, and it’s partnerships like this that make it possible to serve our neighbors with dignity,” said Brooke Neubauer, CEO of The Just One Project. “Having Southwest Gas employees roll up their sleeves and serve side-by-side with our team is a reminder that real change happens when the community comes together.”
“Our employees are deeply rooted in the communities we serve,” said Justin Brown, President of Southwest Gas. “This event reflects our commitment to building stronger, more resilient neighborhoods. By collaborating with The Just One Project, our employees were able to make a direct impact by distributing food, offering hope, and strengthening the neighborhoods we serve.”
During the event, the Southwest Gas Foundation also presented a $30,000 check to The Just One Project, reinforcing Southwest Gas’ 2025 company-wide initiative focused on combating hunger and food insecurity, a growing challenge affecting thousands across the region.
