Southwest Gas and Vegas Golden Knights Unite to Build Beds for Children in Need
More than 120 Volunteers Constructed 60 Beds to Support Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s Mission
LAS VEGAS (February 22, 2025) – The Southwest Gas Foundation in partnership with the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation, hosted an event on Saturday, February 22, to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing beds for children in need. More than 120 volunteers comprising of employees and their family members from Southwest Gas and the Vegas Golden Knights (VGK) assembled at Doral Academy Red Rock Middle School to construct 60 wooden beds. The completed beds will be distributed by SHP to local families who have applied for assistance. Nationally, more than 5,000 children remain on SHP’s waiting list for a bed.

A bed is a fundamental necessity – our collective efforts will help ensure more children in our community have a comfortable place to sleep each night.”
The event is part of Southwest Gas’ BLUE – Building Lives Up Everywhere employee volunteer program. In 2024, Southwest Gas employees volunteered over 4,000 hours to support nonprofit organizations across Nevada, Arizona, and California.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace had its start like many other charities, in a garage. It was Christmas time, a time of joy and happiness, a time of giving and love, but also a time of bitter, cold weather and snowstorms. A project that was started with the build of one bed for a single family developed into something a whole lot more.
