Southwest Gas Reminds Customers to be Mindful of Potential Scams During COVID-19 Pandemic

Category: Corporate
At Southwest Gas, the safety of our customers and communities is our number one priority. We have been made aware of scammers claiming to be from utility companies, particularly during the COVID-19 crisis, who are attempting to either gain access to customers’ homes or entice them to make unnecessary payments by threatening to disrupt service. As a reminder, Southwest Gas will never show up at your door or call and request payment.
While our technicians periodically need access to the meter on the side of your home or business for upkeep and maintenance, if someone shows up to perform services that you haven’t requested, do not let them into your home or business until you verify their identity. Please be aware of potential telephone, mail, email, door-to-door, and other scams that involve criminals posing as our representatives and demanding immediate payment or personal information. Here are some tips to avoid being scammed:
  • Hang up the phone, even if the caller ID says, ‘Southwest Gas’, and do not give the caller a prepaid card, a wire transfer, or any other form of payment that may be difficult for law enforcement officials to trace.
  • Close the door and call Southwest Gas at 877-860-6020 to verify the identity of a representative or your account status, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Ignore suspicious requests for personal information such as bank account numbers, user names and passwords, credit card numbers, or Social Security numbers.
  • Delete and block any emails from utilities that are not your service provider.
  • Delete all suspicious emails that require immediate action to verify or demand personal information.
Southwest Gas employees and our certified contractors will gladly provide proper identification and will be in uniform. They will explain the reason for their visit and will not attempt to gain access to your home unless invited to do so.
To verify the identity of an employee or to check your account status, call  877-860-6020 . Customers can also check their account status using MyAccount at or via the Southwest Gas mobile app. For more safety tips, visit
