Customers are encouraged to conduct checks prior to colder winter months

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Temperatures are dropping throughout Arizona which means it’s time for fair-weather desert dwellers to prepare their homes for increased use of natural gas. Southwest Gas values its customers and is committed to exceeding their expectations, so now is the perfect time to remind them to make sure homes are prepped for winter, as many Southwest Gas-approved contractors are offering special promotional offers throughout November to ensure household heating systems are ready for use.

A list of approved licensed contractors can be found at swgas.com/contractor-referrals .

The Company also reminds the public to act quickly if you suspect a natural gas leak. If you smell a sulfur-like odor, hear a hissing or roaring from the ground, above-ground piping or gas appliance, or see dirt or water blowing into the air or standing water continuously bubbling, Southwest Gas encourages you to leave the area immediately and call 911 and Southwest Gas at 877-860-6020 from a safe location.

Additionally, as part of Southwest Gas’ ongoing efforts to promote energy conservation and sustainability, below are a few reminders on how to manage your thermostat and conserve usage to help reduce monthly gas bills:

  • Set the daytime thermostat between 65°F and 68°F, health permitting, and the nighttime temperature at a lower setting.
  • Regularly change or clean air filters. Heating units use less energy and work more efficiently when filters are not clogged or dirty.
  • Keep warm air inside the home and the frigid air out by sealing leaks and cracks around doors, windows and other openings with caulk or weather stripping.
