North Lake Tahoe Lateral Pipeline Replacement Project


Q&D Construction, a Southwest Gas contractor, will be replacing gas facilities on SR 28 between Kings Beach and Tahoe City, California. The work will include replacement of gas mains and services within the highway and on adjacent properties. Gas service to homes and businesses will not be interrupted. Residents and visitors to the area may experience traffic delays and should expect lane shifts and periodic lane closures within the work area. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during construction.

Project updates:  

May 28, 2023

The drilling operation will continue in Tahoe City over the weekend and through the following weeks. Bidirectional traffic is maintained at this location.

Single lane closures will be on hold for the Memorial Day Weekend. We will begin again May 30th at 8pm.

Tuesday May 30th our mainline crew will begin work in Carnelian Bay heading west. Access to businesses will be maintained.

We will have two additional crews working on gas services. One crew will start at Sahara Dr. in Carnelian Bay and work east. The other crew will begin at Estates Dr. in Tahoe Vista and work east.

Please SLOWN DOWN and be mindful of all road closures. Closures include vehicle and pedestrian traffic. If you need to access a property within the road closure, please communicate with our crew.
 

May 22, 2023

Mainline crew will begin work Sunday 5/21/23 at Sierra Terrace on Highway 28 in Tahoe City working east. An additional crew will begin working on services at Agatam Ave in Tahoe Vista. Both closures will require single lane traffic that will be monitored by flaggers.

May 15, 2023

Crews will continue installing the main gas line in Tahoe City from Grove Street working east. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained through Tahoe City. Monday 5/15/23 drilling equipment will be set up on the north side of Highway 28 across the street from Safeway in Tahoe City.

Businesses between Jackpine Street and Basecamp Tahoe City will have modified access. This closure will be in place for approximately 2 weeks, 24 hours a day.

Crews will continue potholing Highway 28 from Dollar Point to Carnelian Bay. Single lane traffic will be in place, monitored with flaggers.
 

May 7, 2023

Crews will begin excavation on mainline Sunday, May 7th at 7pm in Tahoe City. Work will begin at Mackinaw Rd heading east on Highway 28. Construction will take place 24 hours a day Sunday night through Friday afternoon. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained from Mackinaw Rd to Grove Street. No public parking is permitted in our closures during working hours.

An additional crew will be potholing throughout the week at Burton Creek, Carnelian Bay. Expect lane closures and traffic delays. Please be aware of crew members working in the street and follow all traffic signage. If you need to access a property within the road closure, please communicate with our crew.
 

 
Historical Updates
April 2023
Crews will begin set up and utility potholing work on SR 28 in Tahoe City, starting at Mackinaw Road heading east past Grove Street. Traffic Control will be in place. Bidirectional traffic will be maintained from Mackinaw Road to Grove Street. From Grove Street east, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Work will occur weekdays between 7AM – 5 PM. Please be aware of crew members working in the street and follow all traffic signage.

Southwest Gas technicians and contractors may show up unexpectedly for leak surveys or maintenance. Their identity can be verified using their badge with the Southwest Gas logo or contractor logo.
